I bought a Street Pilot 2720 ~5 years ago and found the more I used it, the more I used it, on the motorcycle and in the car. (I learned that the Map Source deal is that you can associate it to ONLY one gps unit so I had to buy another copy). The 2730 gives me my music AND GPS info on the road. If you want/need self-contained power, do not buy a Street Pilot--it needs to be plugged in to power to work).
I live in the midwest but have used it (the 2720) in the D.C. Garmin Technical Support authorized return of the unit and exchanged it for a brand new one within a week. I'm extremely satisfied with the unit and especially Tech Support--when something is not right--Garmin takes care of you. through the NYC corridor up in to CT with no complaints. I've seen some less than glowing reviews about the logic/routing on the east coast. When I saw a factory refurbed unit available for about what the nuvi's go for, I jumped on it because the big drawback to the 2720 was no music.
They authorized another '09 Update for this new unit at no charge. I'm looking forward to many more miles with the 2730. (I don't need or want bluetooth capability as in the 2820. The unit hiccupped when it came to loading Map Update 2009 on it.
I have compared this and another, smaller unit head-to-head and this was hands down better. This unit is bulkier than most but I have found it's reception is also better. The screen is large and easy to read. I love the sense of security that having a GPS unit gives me.
I'd recommend it although it has been discontinued by Garmin My old GPS has been a good one. Bought this as a backup for my other 2730. The price was right so I got it.
Thankfully, I could purchase another one. I am very please with the product. The only problem I have had, is that the cord broke where it secures into the back of the garmin.
If you buy this like I did, plan on the expense of map downloading and replacing the power source in about one year.
